Healthy Habits and the Five Senses!

This week the theme was Healthy Habits and the Five Senses! Our surprise box was filled with different things we could hear, taste, smell, and feel each day. We added clues to our paper by using these four senses. We finally used our fifth sense when saw what was really in the surprise box! Be sure to check out our class book entitled "What is in the Surprise Box?" We also learned how to use our five senses while reading by painting a picture in our mind. We imagine ourselves as the character and share what we see, hear, taste, smell, and feel. We held up magic paint brushes on popsicle sticks to share our paintings in our mind during reading. Then we added our thoughts to our five senses chart. Check out how we explored our five senses further in our pictures!
Our poem of the week was:

Painting Pictures In My Mind:

When my teacher
Reads a book
Then my mind begins to look
Painting pictures in my head
As the story's being read
Painting pictures
Me and You!

Dental Health!

This week the theme was dental health. We learned how to keep our teeth strong, healthy, and clean! Our sensory bin was filled with pretend teeth that we brushed with magic foam and flossed. We learned which food our teeth like to eat to keep them shiny white, and which food our teeth do not like to eat. We taste tested toothpaste and made a picture graph. Most of our friends liked bubblegum flavored toothpaste. Our favorite snack was two pieces of apple stuck together with peanut butter, and filled with mini marshmellows to look like teeth! Our crafts included teeth made out of glittery tissue paper, using floss as paintbrushes, and painting toothbrushes. This week, our teacher's assistant Miss Nikki lead us in Kid Yoga! We loved it so much that we will be doing it twice a week in the gym. Our poem of the week was:

My Toothbrush

I have a little toothbrush!
I hold it very tight.
I brush my teeth each morning
And at night!

We Love America!

This week the theme was We Love America! We learned so many fun facts about the American flag, the statue of liberty, New York City, and American heroes! For example, there are fifty states and fifty stars on the red, white, and blue flag. We also learned all about the artist who created the statue of libery. He made the statue's face look like his mother because she was so beautiful. We read books about brave people who protect us and help us feel safe, such as firefighters and police officers. Miss Nikki, our new teacher's assistant, brought real firemen clothes for us to try on, with hats to take home too! We played fun games such as the American Pokey and Musical Stripes. We made so many beautiful crafts, such as handprint flags, the statue of liberty surrounded by fireworks, American windsocks, a class flag, and statue of liberty hats. It was also CHINESE NEW YEAR! We read all about Chinese New Year, made chinese lanterns, and our class was in charge of helping create the magical Chinese Dragon for our parade! We did such a fantastic job! We even learned how to say Happy New Year in Chinese- Gung Hay Fat Choy!

Our poem of the week was:
Our American flag
Is red, white, and blue.
Wave it in the air
Is what we do!
We are proud to say
America we love you!
