This week the theme was polar bears! We learned all about winter animals in Antartica, what they eat, and how they stay warm. Polar bears have blubber and soft fur which keeps them warm! Our sensory bins this week were filled with fun activities. We went ice fishing in Antartica with Billy the Bear. Our fishies and fishing pole were magnetic which made it extra fun! The fishies had words written on them and we were able to match the fish by thinking of the beginning and ending sounds. We are becoming such fantastic readers. Our letters of the week were B, E, and S. We played the "word detective" song and found things in the classroom that began with the B, E, and S sounds. We even brought things in from home to add to our bin. Our art activities included more animal puppets for Antartica, igloo paintings, and polar bears. Miss Kate brought pretend ice chunks and snowballs for our Antartica center, and we were able to build igloos and dens for the animals. The background of Antartica was decorated with an ocean mural we painted together. Our poem of the week was
Polar Bear Polar Bear,
Turn around!
Polar Bear Polar Bear,
Touch the ground!
Polar Bear Polar Bear,
Growl real loud!
Polar Bear Polar Bear,
Sit right down!
Don't forget to sign out our classroom books that we are making! Check out our new one: "Polar Bear Polar Bear What Do You Hear?" Next week the letter of the week is W. Please bring in items that begin with W for our sensory bin.
